“Please accept my humblest gratitude,” the velociraptor said. It reached out a clawed arm and grasped hold of the herbivore’s limp appendage. “I just can’t help what I am, and I must eat.” Excuses spent, guilt sated, the other velociraptors gathered around the body, flanking their shaman.
“Enough with the bullshit!” cried a particularly brusque member of the tribe. “Let’s eat!”
The sound of squelching blood and tearing meat filled the air. Teeth against bone, mouths full of fresh meat. The scent of copper filled the air of the forest, and any herbivore who didn’t heed the danger warnings knew instinctively they were next. There were predators about.
“We’re a peaceful race,” mused the shaman, “we only kill to eat.”
Just then, the velociraptors smelled the vile stench of an enemy. “Kill! Kill!” they chanted as one, racing off to fight the offender. So peaceful they were, their spirits soared with the chase and eventual clash.
*This is just something I wrote to get back into the habit of writing. It was inspired by a silly, naive facebook post saying that life on Earth was peaceful before humans. LOL
